Friends and family

Supporting family connections
Friends and family can play a key role in helping a prisoner to cope during their time in custody, and can also have a big impact on helping to reduce their risk of further offending behaviour in the future.
At HMP Peterborough we have our Family Matters team who are dedicated to helping maintain and strengthen vital relationships while in custody.
Family and Significant Other Days
To help maintain and strengthen connections with family and friends we run Family and Significant Other Day events throughout the year.
The event is designed to give prisoners the opportunity to interact with their family and significant others by spending quality time together in a relaxed atmosphere.
These sessions are extra-long visits, typically lasting around four hours. As well as a buffet lunch, there are activities including games, bingo and a raffle.
Members of the Family Matters team are also on hand to offer any advice or support you may need.
Useful information for you
Find a prisoner
If you are unsure which establishment a prisoner is located in, or to confirm an individual's details, please use the Prisoner Location Service. Our general enquiries line is not able to provide this information. Please remember a prisoner must give permission for their details to be shared.
Release day
You are welcome to come to the prison on the day that your loved one is due to be released.
We are not able to provide a time at which they will be released and you will be required to wait outside the prison for them to arrive.
If you need to come in to use the toilet, please be polite and courteous to our staff.
Keeping in touch
We encourage you to stay in contact with your friends and loved ones while they are in prison to support them through their custodial sentence.
You can keep in touch via telephone, letter and using the 'emailaprisoner' service.
